If euthanasia is legal in Taiwan, would Qiong Yao commit suicide?

I don't think so.

If euthanasia were legal in Taiwan, she wouldn't have to leave this world in a way like burning charcoal; she could choose a more dignified way to depart, say goodbye to her family, bid farewell to the world, and then leave gracefully—even though I think the current method is already quite dignified.

There are differing opinions around the world regarding the legality of euthanasia, and the number of countries that have legislated to allow active euthanasia is quite limited.

Why do many people oppose euthanasia? I think it mainly comes down to moral objections. Western religions generally believe that humans are created by God, and choosing death is a disrespect to God. In contrast, Eastern views are more rooted in filial piety and ancestral respect; after all, the body and skin are received from one's parents. Your choice regarding your own life is not only seen as a desire to end it but also as a disrespect to your ancestors and a lack of filial piety towards your parents.

This obsession with death has trapped many people and forced countless elderly individuals to "be kept alive by machines." Is this what they want? I think not. Qiong Yao saw her husband suffer from the torment of illness and did not want to experience "weakness, degeneration, illness, hospital visits, treatment, and dying painfully," so she chose to end her life on her own terms and peacefully left behind a video and a letter, informing future generations not to be confused by the myths of life and death, truly living with openness and great wisdom.

My grandfather lived for over ninety years, and in our daily chats before he fell ill, he often joked that he had lived enough in this life. He had a relaxed view of death and understood it well, but in his final moments, he still experienced immense pain. I truly wish he could have had a choice, and that his loved ones could support him, so he wouldn't have to endure such great suffering.

My stance is to support returning the right to die to individuals. I accepted and supported euthanasia a long time ago, and I can be certain that in the future, if possible, I would choose to leave in my own way, clearly communicating with my loved ones, without causing trouble for others or suffering myself.
