Last week, I received a text notification that my driver's license is about to expire and I need to renew it as soon as possible.
I obtained my driver's license in Wuhan, Hubei in 2016, which means it has been almost 6 years and it's time for my first renewal. Before the expiry renewal, I heard from a friend that it can be done online and it's very simple. However, when I checked in Beijing, I found out that I need to provide a medical certificate - a proof that I haven't lost any limbs, haven't become color blind, or color weak during these 6 years. Although it's a bit troublesome, I think the medical examination is necessary.
I downloaded the "12123 Traffic Management" app, and on the homepage, there is an entrance for "Driver's License Replacement and Renewal". After clicking on it, it will verify if the user meets the requirements: If you haven't had a medical examination, the option for expiry renewal will be grayed out, and it will remind you to go for a medical examination first.
One thing that could be improved here is that although the medical examination is a necessary requirement, the app only provides a prompt without a "medical examination" search entrance. So, I had to go back to the homepage and search for the entrance to the medical examination and learn how to go through the process. However, after searching for a while, I couldn't find the entrance for this function, so I had to use the search... Then, in the search "hot search" list, I saw the keyword "medical examination"! I don't know if this is a real hot search or a fixed configuration of hot search terms, but I know that it is definitely a very commonly used function, and it should not only exist in the hot search...
After clicking on "medical examination", it directly leads to the function page, where I selected "Driver's Medical Examination", chose "non-C5", and clicked confirm, which then displayed the nearest offline service point.
I chose a nearby XX Community Health Service Center, checked the address, and planned to go for the medical examination on Friday.
After arriving at the hospital, I realized that this place is a small hospital where I had frequently taken nucleic acid tests before. After entering, I went directly to the place for the medical examination following the instructions on the wall:
- Registration
- Printing the form
- Payment (20 yuan)
- Vision and color recognition test, uploading the medical examination information
Apart from the waiting time, the entire medical examination process took less than 10 minutes, and the efficiency was very high.
In the afternoon of the same day, I applied for the expiry renewal on the "12123 Traffic Management" app. The acceptance speed was also very fast, and I was reminded in the evening that it was "already issued" and the mailing process had begun.
Two days later, on Monday, the driver's license was delivered from Wuhan to Beijing by postal express - adding 10 more years to the lifespan of the license.
The entire process took 10 minutes, lasted for 3 days, and cost 50 yuan - 20 yuan for administrative fees and 30 yuan for express delivery.
